Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has publicly thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of a new Federal Polytechnic in Ngodo Isuochi, located in Umunneochi Local Government Area. The Governor made it clear that his administration will support the institution equally, whether it is a Federal or State-owned school.

During a meeting with members of the Polytechnic’s Governing Council, Otti described the new institution as a huge step forward for the people of Abia. He said it will bring educational opportunities and economic benefits to the state.

The Governor praised the council for securing approval for some academic courses and starting construction work at the permanent site of the Polytechnic.

Otti stressed that his government does not focus on who owns a school—Federal, State, or local. What matters most, he said, is that the people of Abia will be the ones using it and benefitting from it. Most of the students who will attend the Polytechnic are likely to be from Abia State.

He also spoke about his government’s efforts to improve security in the Uturu–Isuikwuato area. He explained that his team is working closely with security agencies to keep the area safe and prevent crime.

The Governor revealed that he had to fight hard to push criminals out of the Isuikwuato and Umunneochi areas. He recently met with the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abia to talk about how to solve security issues around Uturu, where Abia State University is located.

The Chairman of the Polytechnic’s Governing Council, Suleiman Oduwale, said they came to thank Governor Otti for giving the Polytechnic a Certificate of Occupancy for the permanent site and for providing other needed support, including improved security.

Oduwale noted that with the area now safer, more parents feel confident enough to send their children to the Polytechnic to study.
