Lawyer and entrepreneur Adaobi Alagwu said businessman Tunde Ayeni tricked her into what she thought was a traditional marriage. She claimed Ayeni lied to her about his real marital status from the beginning.
She said Ayeni’s recent interview with THISDAY newspaper, where he spoke negatively about her, was full of lies. According to her, the interview was aimed at distracting people from the main issue and trying to damage her image.
Adaobi, through her lawyers, explained that she started a relationship with Ayeni because he told her he was married under customary law, which allows a man to take another wife. She believed there was no legal problem with starting a relationship with him.
Her lawyers, Indemnity Partners, led by Chief B. C. Igwilo (SAN), said Ayeni himself arranged and paid for a DNA test abroad. The result proved with 99.9999% certainty that he is the father of Adaobi’s child.
The lawyers stated clearly that both Adaobi and Ayeni entered the relationship as consenting adults. They also repeated that Ayeni had told Adaobi that his marriage was under traditional law, making it possible for him to marry her.
According to the letter, Ayeni later became unfriendly and started attacking Adaobi and her family publicly, even though she did not respond in the same way. Her lawyers described this sudden change in behavior as unjustified.
They also explained that Ayeni named their child and is listed as the father in both the baby’s international passport and official birth records. This, they said, proves that he accepted responsibility at the time.
Adaobi denied claims that she hacked into Ayeni’s wife’s email or tried to change anything in the DNA process. Her lawyers called those accusations ridiculous and said they were made to damage her reputation.
As the matter continues to trend online, many questions remain unanswered. People are still wondering about Adaobi’s claim that she was misled into a secret traditional marriage by the business man.
