Senator Ireti Kingibe has openly criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. She said that since he took over the role, life has become tougher for many people living in Abuja.
According to her, Wike has not focused on what most Abuja residents truly need. She believes that while some development projects are ongoing, they do not really help the general public.
In an interview with Channels Television, Senator Kingibe admitted that Wike is building roads, but she pointed out that these roads are not useful to the majority because there is no good public transport system. She said, “He’s building roads, but we don’t have public transport, so most people don’t benefit.”
She also questioned why Wike is investing in projects like the International Conference Centre (ICC) when many more pressing issues exist, like insecurity and unpaid salaries for workers at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
Senator Kingibe shared her concern about how Wike treated poor women who used to sweep the streets. She said that past ministers always kept them on the job out of sympathy because many of them were widows. But Wike removed them without listening to advice or offering other options.
She concluded by saying that many residents feel that Wike came and made things worse instead of better. According to her, “FCT has had a minister who most residents believe came to make life as difficult as possible.”
