Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents the people of Kogi Central, has shared the reason why she postponed her return to the Senate. According to her, the decision was made after getting legal advice and choosing to follow proper procedures.
She also explained that she plans to wait for the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the court judgment before deciding what step to take next.
Natasha spoke about this in an interview with African Independent Television (AIT), where she gave more details about her situation.
She pointed out that even while she was suspended, she stayed active and kept in touch with her people. She focused on delivering community projects and continued work on her main legislative effort—the Gold Reserve Bill.
Her earlier announcement that she would resume her duties on a Tuesday created some tension in the National Assembly.
On that day, there was a strong presence of security officers, and every vehicle entering or leaving the National Assembly was carefully checked.
Even though a court had ruled that her suspension was too harsh and not in line with the law, a legal opinion dated July 5, written by Senate lawyer Paul Daudu, SAN, claimed the ruling did not clearly direct the Senate to reinstate her.
Natasha explained that she did not stop working. She said her Gold Reserve Bill was still progressing, and she planned to focus next on new laws about lithium and red minerals. She made it clear that these were personal efforts, and she couldn’t just hand them over to others.
She stressed her commitment to serving her people and all Nigerians, with or without being physically present in the Senate.
Natasha concluded by saying she still has strong faith in the judiciary and will not give up in her fight for justice.
