Reuben Abati, a well-known media figure and former presidential aide, has been strongly criticized by Lere Olayinka, who works as the media aide to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Olayinka shared his thoughts on social media, saying that Abati didn’t do a good job when he was in charge of media and publicity for former President Goodluck Jonathan. He claimed that the weak media strategy during Jonathan’s presidency gave room for many people to speak badly about him.
He explained that while Jonathan was facing a lot of negative media attention, Abati and his media team failed to protect the president’s image. According to Olayinka, this poor handling of the media was a big reason why Jonathan was “demonized” and misunderstood by the public.
Olayinka went further by accusing Abati of being more focused on enjoying the benefits of his position than actually doing the work. In his words, Abati was “just collecting money and doing Big Man” while the president was being insulted in the media.
This public criticism has sparked new discussions online about how important it is for political leaders to have strong and active media teams who truly work to protect their public image.
‘’In this game, when someone throws one pebble at you, look for a very big MUD (Ògúlùtu) and throw it at the person.
This is not a gentleman’s game. It is gbas gbos. You will be abused, you will be insulted, never mind.
One of the reasons President Goodluck Jonathan was demonized successfully was his WEAK MEDIA led by that garrulous and arrogant @abati1990 .
Reuben Abati was just collecting money and doing Big Man while President Jonathan was being rubbished in the media. He failed as President Jonathan’s media adviser.”
