Man d!es in Italian airport after running on to runway and getting ‘sucked into jet engine’ as plane prepared for take-off

A tragic incident occurred at Milan Bergamo Airport in Italy, leading to the death of a man and the suspension of all airport operations.

According to reports from Corriere della Sera, the victim was neither a traveler nor an airport worker. He reportedly ran onto the runway and was pulled into the engine of a plane that was preparing for takeoff.

Flight data from Flightradar24 showed that the aircraft, flight V73511 heading to Austria, had only been moving for about one minute and 55 seconds before the fatal event happened.

Following the tragedy, all incoming flights to the airport were affected. Milan Bergamo, which is one of Italy’s busiest airports, had several flights diverted to nearby cities. By 11:50 am, one flight was rerouted to Bologna, two went to Verona, and six others were sent to Milan Malpensa Airport.

Local media confirmed that eight flights scheduled to leave Bergamo were cancelled after operations were stopped at 10:20 am. The airport operator, Sacbo, stated that the accident happened on the taxiway and that police are now investigating the cause of the incident.

The Lombardy Airports Association posted an update on X (formerly Twitter), saying that traffic at the airport was on hold due to a serious situation on the apron. They also warned travelers to expect delays, diversions, and cancellations throughout the morning.

By the latest count, FlightRadar data showed that a total of 19 flights had already been cancelled because of the incident.
