Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has spoken with deep emotion about his late teammate Diogo Jota, recalling how the Portuguese forward helped him settle into life at Anfield.
According to Diaz, Jota made a touching gesture towards him when he first joined the club, a moment he says he will never forget. The Colombian international described Jota not just as a teammate, but as someone who truly cared for others.
Speaking to WinSportsTV, Diaz said the news of Jota’s passing was extremely painful. “It is very difficult to receive news like this, it is very sad,” he said, adding that no one is ever prepared for such heartbreaking news.
Diaz went on to explain that when he arrived at Liverpool, Jota and his family welcomed him warmly. Their support helped him adjust to his new environment, and over time, the two players built a strong friendship. He said they shared a healthy rivalry on the pitch, which helped push each other to improve.
“He made a very nice gesture towards me, which I will never forget,” Diaz said. “May he rest in peace. I have a great friend in my heart, who will always be remembered by his team.”
Diogo Jota tragically died last Thursday alongside his brother Andre in a car accident in Spain. He had joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and quickly became a key player for the Reds. Diaz came to Liverpool two years later in 2022 from Porto, and the two quickly formed a close bond.
Jota’s death has left a deep mark on his teammates and fans. For Diaz, the memory of Jota’s kindness and friendship will always remain alive.
