US House passes Donald Trump’s controversial ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed President Donald Trump’s massive policy bill in a very close vote—218 lawmakers voted in favor, while 214 were against. The bill now heads to Trump’s desk for his signature.

Earlier this week, the Senate had already approved the bill after a long debate. The bill includes tax cuts and gives more money to the U.S. military and border security. However, it also makes deep cuts to social programs, which experts say is the biggest reduction in decades.

The vote in the House was mostly along party lines. All 212 Democrats opposed the bill, and two Republicans joined them. To get it passed, Republican leaders worked through the night to get just enough support, so the bill could be signed by July 4, as Trump wanted.

House Speaker Mike Johnson praised the bill. He said it will make America stronger, safer, and more successful. He also called it the start of a “new golden age” for the country.

The bill is nearly 1,000 pages long and changes how the U.S. government spends money. It shifts funding away from clean energy and social aid, and instead puts trillions into tax breaks, immigration enforcement, and national defense.

Trump was personally involved in getting support for the bill. He invited lawmakers to the White House and kept in touch throughout the day. He also posted many messages on social media, urging Republicans not to delay.

In one late-night post, Trump warned that MAGA supporters were unhappy and could turn against lawmakers if the bill didn’t pass. He said Republicans must choose between “the biggest tax cuts in history” or “a failed economy.”

The bill also fulfills several promises Trump made during his reelection campaign. Most importantly, it makes the large tax cuts from his first term permanent.
