FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has said he is ready to confront former Governor Rotimi Amaechi and even his children in Rivers State if they go ahead with the protest Amaechi is calling for. Wike made this statement on Friday while reacting to Amaechi’s recent comments.
Amaechi had appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday night and urged Nigerians to rise up and protest against President Bola Tinubu’s administration. His remarks quickly drew a strong reaction from Wike.
Wike, who served as governor of Rivers State before becoming the FCT Minister, recalled that he had defeated Amaechi politically in the past. He said he is confident that he can do it again if necessary.
He made these comments while speaking during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated Aguma Palace-Radio Nigeria-New Market Road in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT. The project was officially opened by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the event.
Wike also reminded everyone that even before becoming governor, he had blocked powerful political figures from imposing their chosen successors. He said that in 2015, he stopped a strong governor from making his preferred candidate the next governor, and he succeeded in that political fight.
Responding to Amaechi’s comments, Wike said: “I was not a governor when I refused some people from bringing their successor, in 2015 I defeated a very powerful governor who wanted his boy to be governor.
“In 2019, a super minister borrowing money from the Chinese bank and everywhere, making us to be highly indebted – he was the DG to for the President’s campaign – he couldn’t get 20 percent for Mr President then, I defeated him.
“Some people say Nigerians should come out. The man who is saying that, I want you to lead it.
“You that is inciting Nigerians to revolt, I’m waiting for you in Rivers State. You will start there first and lead it with your children.
“And it’s not that your children would be in London while you are here saying that they should come out and revolt.
“If you can come with your children, we will face ourselves; then we will know that you really mean what you are saying.”
