Rotimi Amaechi, Nigeria’s former Minister of Transportation, has said that although former President Muhammadu Buhari did not complete everything he planned, he still performed better than President Bola Tinubu’s current government. Amaechi made this statement on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today.

He explained that Buhari himself would admit he didn’t accomplish all his goals. However, in Amaechi’s view, the Buhari administration was more successful than the current one in many areas. He believes Buhari’s performance was stronger when it comes to security and allowing important institutions to work independently.

Amaechi, who also served as the Governor of Rivers State, pointed out that Buhari was more focused on improving security in the country. He also mentioned that Buhari gave more freedom to INEC, Nigeria’s electoral body. According to him, things have changed under the current administration. He claimed that people who want to register new political parties with INEC are being stopped by government officials. Some of those applicants are even facing hardship, like losing their office spaces because their applications are delayed.

Amaechi made it clear that his criticism of Tinubu is not out of personal dislike. He said if Tinubu’s government was doing well, he would have been the first to applaud and support it.
