The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has fired back at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, after he criticized leaders of the new political coalition.
Wike recently spoke during a media session in Abuja, where he attacked key figures like Chibuike Amaechi, David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, and Haji Sirika, who are part of the new coalition.
He said these leaders had been in power for many years but didn’t do much to help everyday Nigerians. Now, he claims, they want to act like saviours.
Wike also defended the current government of President Bola Tinubu and the APC, saying they are working hard to improve the economy despite the difficulties.
He argued that the coalition leaders don’t have the right to oppose a government that is actually trying to fix the country, especially when they failed to make a difference in the past.
In response, ADC, through Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the Coalition Movement, said Wike should be the last person to talk. They accused him of neglecting basic responsibilities like paying teachers’ salaries, while focusing on flashy projects that don’t help the people.
The party said Wike’s actions don’t match the role of a public servant and that he is now scared because the opposition coalition has finally taken off and is gaining attention.
The coalition, they explained, was born out of frustration with Tinubu’s government and the hardship facing Nigerians. If Wike and the administration had kept their promises, there wouldn’t be a need for such a movement.
They pointed out that if Wike had paid the teachers who have been on strike for months and treated Abuja workers better, he wouldn’t be so afraid of the opposition.
ADC admitted that the coalition leaders are angry, but said that anger comes from seeing how badly Nigerians are suffering under the current leadership Wike supports.
They added that it’s painful to watch poor children lose access to education simply because their teachers haven’t been paid.
They also criticized the level of insecurity in the FCT under Wike’s watch and said he helped ruin one of Africa’s strongest political parties—the PDP.
According to them, it’s too late for Wike to complain. The coalition is for the Nigerian people, who were promised “renewed hope” but instead got more suffering.
Finally, they stated that no amount of insults from Wike can stop the movement, which is growing because Nigerians are tired of broken promises.
