President Federation Cup: Rivers Angels beat Nasarawa Amazons to retain women’s title

Rivers Angels have successfully defended their President Federation Cup title after defeating Nasarawa Amazons through a 4-2 penalty shootout. The final match took place on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.

At halftime, the defending champions were losing 2-0 but managed a strong comeback in the second half to eventually win the trophy for the 10th time in their history.

Nasarawa Amazons got an early advantage in the match. Olusola Shobowale opened the scoring in the 7th minute after the Rivers Angels defence failed to clear the ball properly.

Just ten minutes later, Shobowale scored again, doubling the lead for her team, which was managed by Chris Danjuma.

In the second half, Rivers Angels responded with more energy. Taiwo Ajibade scored for them just before the 60-minute mark, cutting Nasarawa’s lead in half.

A few minutes later, Taiwo Afolabi scored the equaliser, bringing the game to 2-2 and putting Rivers Angels back in the contest.

After 90 minutes of exciting play with no extra time added, the match was decided by penalties. Rivers Angels scored four penalties, while Nasarawa Amazons managed to score just two.
