Obi backs Ganduje’s resignation, urges ailing leaders to step down

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate from the Labour Party, has praised Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for resigning due to health reasons. Obi called it a respectful and wise decision that should encourage other leaders with health problems to do the same.

Ganduje, who was once the governor of Kano State, stepped down from his role on Friday. He said his main reason was his health and his need to focus on getting better.

Reacting on his official X (Twitter) page, Obi said he respected Ganduje’s decision to leave his position for health reasons. He also pointed out that leadership needs both physical strength and mental alertness.

Obi said, “Resigning because of health concerns is the right thing to do. It shows that a leader understands the job and takes it seriously.”

He further explained that Nigeria can no longer afford to have leaders who go abroad for medical care, stay away from duty for too long, or are too old to lead properly. Obi stressed that the country needs leaders who are strong, fit, and active.

In closing, Obi said Ganduje has now set a good moral example. He hopes that other leaders in similar situations will think about this and make the same responsible choice.
