Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, was recently seen in public with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as well as the suspended Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule. Their appearance comes just two days after they attended a new peace meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The three politicians were seen together during a funeral ceremony held in Rumueprikom, which is Wike’s hometown in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. Their presence at the event drew public interest due to their history of political disagreement.
Fubara, Wike, and Amaewhule have been at odds for nearly two years, causing division in the political structure of Rivers State. Their conflict has drawn national attention and affected governance in the region.
Their latest public appearance comes shortly after President Bola Tinubu held a peace meeting with them in Abuja. The President urged all sides to put their political differences aside and work together for the progress of Rivers State.
Several influential politicians were also present at the funeral. Among them were Senator Allwell Onyesoh, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, and Senator Olaka Nwogu.
Other notable attendees included the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche; ex-lawmaker Hon. Ken Chikere; South-South Vice Chairman of the APC, Victor Giadom; and former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja.
Their joint appearance may signal a new beginning and a possible return of peace to Rivers State’s political space.
