Southampton announce Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu’s transfer to Trabzonspor

Southampton Football Club has confirmed that Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has left the team and joined Turkish club Trabzonspor on a permanent deal.

The club shared this news in an official announcement on Friday, June 27. In the statement, Southampton said both clubs have agreed on the transfer of the Super Eagles forward.

Onuachu, who is 31 years old, played for Southampton for two and a half years. During his time at the club, he appeared in 40 matches and scored four goals. However, he had a more successful time last season while on loan at Trabzonspor, where he scored 15 goals in just 21 games.

Southampton thanked the Nigerian striker for his time at the club and wished him all the best in his career. The message read: “We thank Paul for his efforts during his time as a Saints player and wish him well.”

The club also posted the transfer update on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming that the deal was completed.

Southampton will be playing in the English Championship next season after being relegated from the Premier League. Leicester City and Ipswich Town were also relegated.

Paul Onuachu began playing for Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, in 2019. Since then, he has played 24 matches and scored three goals. He was also part of the team that finished second in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire.
