Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that the country is not growing economically the way it should.
He made this statement while speaking at the Afreximbank Annual Meetings currently being held in Abuja on Thursday, June 26.
“We are not where we should be economically. For over three or four decades, Nigeria has taken two steps forward, one step aside, and maybe one or two steps backward.”he said
Obasanjo spoke about how some people describe major African countries as “lions” of the continent, meaning they are strong economies. But he questioned this view, saying these countries, including Nigeria, are not moving forward quickly enough.
He believes that if Africa wants real change and progress, countries like Nigeria must speed up their development. Right now, he says, the pace is too slow for the kind of growth the continent needs.
