Suspected kidnappers k!ll Anambra community leader after reportedly collecting N15m ransom

A sad incident has happened in Anambra State, where a respected community leader, Chief Augustine Ezedinachi, was reportedly killed by kidnappers even after a ransom of N15 million was paid.

Chief Ezedinachi, also known as High Chief Gbafankiti na Nimo, was a well-known titleholder in Nimo community, located in Njikoka Local Government Area. He had worked with Chevron before retiring and was also a member of the Nimo Royal Cabinet.

After retiring, Chief Ezedinachi returned to his village to enjoy a peaceful life. He spent most of his time farming and raising livestock.

However, on June 19, 2025, his peaceful life was cut short when armed men wearing masks kidnapped him from his farm, which is located behind St. Michael’s Secondary School in Nimo.

Eyewitnesses said the men came with guns and took him away by force. No one knew where they took him.

The kidnappers later called his family using his own phone and asked for money in exchange for his release. Although the exact amount was not first known, it was later reported that the family paid N15 million.

Despite the ransom payment, the kidnappers still killed Chief Ezedinachi. His body was later found on the same farmland where he was taken. Reports say his head had deep machete cuts, showing he was brutally attacked.

This tragic event has caused fear and sadness in the community, with many calling for justice and better security in the area.
