Liverpool have now signed Milos Kerkez, a left-back from Bournemouth, in a deal worth £40 million.
With this addition, the club has now spent over £200 million this summer. Before this, they brought in Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for a total of £145.5 million. They also signed two goalkeepers — Giorgi Mamardashvili and Armin Pecsi.
Kerkez, who is 21 years old and from Hungary, has signed a five-year contract with the Reds.
In an interview with Liverpool’s official website, Kerkez said he was very happy to join the club. He described Liverpool as one of the biggest teams in the world and said it felt like a real honour to be part of it.
He also said he plans to go home to relax for a few days before returning to start pre-season training. He’s excited to wear the Liverpool training shirt and begin working with the team.
Kerkez promised to give his best on the pitch, saying he wants to help the club win trophies. He also said he hopes to score some goals at Anfield and is looking forward to hearing the fans cheer.
Last season, he was one of Bournemouth’s key players. He made 38 Premier League appearances, scoring two goals and assisting six times. Liverpool have had their eyes on him for a while.
Interestingly, Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes used to work at Bournemouth and was the one who signed Kerkez from AZ Alkmaar in 2023. That past connection likely helped in bringing him to Anfield.
Bournemouth, knowing Kerkez might leave, signed Adrien Truffert from Rennes earlier in June. The initial fee was £10.1 million but could go up to £14.3 million. Truffert is expected to take Kerkez’s place.
