Islamic New Year: Zamfara government declares Friday public holiday

The Zamfara State Government has announced that Friday, June 27, 2025, will be a public holiday. This is to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1447 After Hijrah.

A statement from the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mahmud Muhammad Dantawasa, said Governor Dauda Lawal approved the holiday. The aim is to allow Muslims and all residents time to pray and reflect during the New Year.

The statement added that the holiday is part of Zamfara’s tradition of giving respect to important Islamic events.

Governor Lawal congratulated Muslims on seeing the New Year and asked all residents to use the time to pray for lasting peace and development in the state and the country.

He also encouraged people to continue praying for peace and progress in Zamfara and across Nigeria, especially because of the security problems the region is facing.

The government ended the message by wishing everyone in Zamfara a peaceful and spiritually uplifting Islamic New Year.
