The ongoing 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States has seen 15 teams already knocked out of the tournament.
These eliminations came after the final group stage matches played on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
Two of the latest teams to exit the tournament are South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Argentina’s River Plate. Both clubs failed to qualify for the Round of 16.
Mamelodi Sundowns ended their group stage with a 0-0 draw against Fluminense. They needed a win to advance but finished third in Group F, which wasn’t enough to move forward.
River Plate, meanwhile, lost 2-0 to Inter Milan in their last group game. The loss pushed them down to third place in Group E, ending their journey in the competition.
Other clubs that have been eliminated include well-known teams like Al Ahly, Los Angeles FC, Auckland City, Pachuca, Ulsan HD, Urawa Red Diamonds, Esperance, and Boca Juniors.
Also leaving the tournament are FC Porto, Al Ain, Wydad AC, Atletico Madrid, and Seattle Sounders. All these teams fell short in the group stage and won’t be part of the knockout round.
As the competition moves on, attention now shifts to the remaining teams battling it out for a place in the final stages.
