Chief of Defence Staff meets Benue Traditional Council, elders in Makurdi

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, visited Benue State and met with traditional rulers and respected elders in Makurdi, the state capital. This visit is part of his nationwide mission to promote peace and strengthen security.

General Musa’s main aim was to build better understanding between the military and local communities. He also wanted to learn about traditional methods that could help solve the security problems affecting different parts of Benue.

The meeting took place at the Benue Peoples House. During the gathering, General Musa praised the role traditional leaders play in keeping peace in rural communities. He said that security forces must work closely with these leaders to protect the people better.

He gave his word that the military is committed to stopping the violence caused by bandits and the ongoing clashes between herders and farmers. He assured the elders that peace and safety will be restored in affected communities.

The Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty Professor James Ayatse, spoke on behalf of the traditional council. He thanked General Musa for visiting and recognizing the importance of local leaders. He said the visit came at a time when the people needed support the most.

He also encouraged the military to increase its presence in villages and make sure people who were displaced can return home safely.

This important meeting is expected to improve communication between the military and the people. It should also help the armed forces get better support and useful information from communities to strengthen ongoing security operations.
