Kwara gov declares Thursday public holiday to mark new islamic year

The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has announced that Thursday, June 26, 2025, will be a public holiday to celebrate the Islamic New Year, 1447 AH.

In a message shared on Wednesday, June 25, by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor sent his best wishes to all Muslims in the state as they begin the new Hijrah year.

The governor said that Thursday, which marks the first day of Muharram and the start of the Islamic calendar, will be observed as a public holiday across Kwara State.

He encouraged Muslims to take time to think about what the Hijrah means. He explained that Hijrah is a powerful lesson in community, sacrifice, peace, and human connection. He called on everyone to strengthen their relationships with others and live in peace, showing respect and kindness to all.

Governor AbdulRazaq also noted that Hijrah teaches people to leave behind anything that causes division or injustice. Instead, it pushes for unity, harmony, and standing up for what is right.

He ended his message with a prayer, asking that the new Hijrah year brings blessings, peace, happiness, stronger faith, and better security to every family in Kwara.
