The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, said the projects he has done were possible because of support from President Bola Tinubu.
Wike explained that good roads are very important to grow the economy.
He said this while opening the new right-hand lane of the Inner Northern Expressway (INEX) that stretches from Ring Road 3 (RR3) to the Outer Northern Expressway, also known as Murtala Mohammed Expressway.
This road, connecting Idu to Zuba, was opened to celebrate Tinubu’s two years in office as president.
Since Tinubu could not come, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, represented him at the event.
Wike praised Tinubu for helping to build many roads across the FCT since Wike became minister.
He said, “Roads are the key to any economic progress. Investors will come when there are good roads. If roads are missing, investors will not come because building roads is the government’s job. We will keep thanking Mr. President for this.
“Today is the 10th day Mr. President is officially opening projects. He has come himself five times, but today you are here to represent him. The Speaker and the Senate President have also stood in for him. We have opened 10 projects so far, with 7 more to go. We opened two on June 17th — Mabushi bus terminal and INEC’s headquarters.
“The Senate President will open his projects tomorrow, and the Speaker will do his starting Friday until June 30th. Then, the Vice President will open projects on July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. We want Nigerians to know that Mr. President has done well for Abuja and its development.
“We will keep praying that you keep supporting us like this because without support, we cannot do much. When people say we are doing well, it is because the President supports us. Without his support, nothing will work. It’s like a monkey jumping on a tree — without the tree, its legs will break.”
Wike thanked the president again and promised to keep working hard under the “Renewed Hope Agenda” for the good of Nigeria and Abuja.
About the upcoming local area council elections in FCT, Wike said the opposition has no strong points to convince people.
He said, “For those planning to contest the area council elections, I don’t know what they will tell people. But our supporters can show the people what we have done, so people should not waste their money.
“The projects we have done are proof enough. When you do good work, there is no need to say you were rigged when you lose. Our work is the real proof.
“When you give people what they want, there is no problem. So friends, we will tell people to look at the roads, bus terminals, schools, and many other projects. Where did these come from? From our work.”
