At least nine football clubs have now been knocked out of the ongoing 2025 Club World Cup in the United States.
One of the biggest teams to be eliminated is Atletico Madrid. The Spanish club needed a huge goal difference in their final Group B match against Botafogo to move forward, but they only managed a 1-0 win on Monday.
Antoine Griezmann scored the only goal for Atletico late in the match, just three minutes before the end.
Atletico Madrid finished the group stage with four points. They had earlier lost 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain and then bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Seattle Sounders.
Seattle Sounders also failed to advance in the competition. Their 2-0 loss to PSG in their last group game sealed their exit from the tournament.
PSG’s goals were scored by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the first half and Achraf Hakimi in the second half.
Besides Atletico and Seattle, other teams that are out of the tournament include Al Ain, Wydad AC, Los Angeles FC, Auckland City, Pachuca, Ulsan HD, and Urawa Red Diamonds.
These clubs have been eliminated as the competition heads into its next stage with fewer teams still in the race for the title.
