Troops nab 8 kidnap suspects, rescue 2 hostages in Kwara

Soldiers from the 22 Armoured Brigade, based at the Forward Operating Base in Patigi, Kwara State, have arrested eight people suspected of kidnapping. They also rescued two hostages during the mission.

According to a statement on Sunday by Lt. Stephen Nwankwo, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations in Ilorin, the troops got reliable information and carried out a planned attack on Saturday. Their target was a criminal hideout near Latandaji Village in Patigi Local Government Area.

He explained that the kidnappers tried to resist arrest, but the soldiers overpowered them with stronger firepower.

During the mission, two kidnapped victims—Amos Moses and Philip Michael—were successfully rescued. The soldiers also captured eight suspects linked to the crime.

One of the suspects, Mohammed Mohammed, was injured by a bullet during the gunfight and is now receiving medical treatment.

Lt. Nwankwo further shared that the soldiers found and took two motorcycles and two used gun cartridges from the scene. These items are believed to have been used by the suspects.

All eight arrested suspects are now in military custody. They will be handed over to the proper authorities after an initial investigation is done.

The Army assured the public of its strong dedication to protecting lives and property across the nation.

They also encouraged the public to keep giving useful information to help security forces stop criminal activities.

The Army stressed that it will keep working to protect communities and bring lasting peace wherever troops are deployed.
