Super Eagles can still qualify for 2026 World Cup – Eguavoen

Former Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen, believes Nigeria still has a good chance of playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Eguavoen, who is 59 years old, temporarily returned to manage the team after Finidi George stepped down following just two games.

Under his short leadership, Nigeria booked a place in the 2025 AFCON. After that, Eric Chelle was brought in as the full-time head coach.

Right now, the Super Eagles are sitting in fourth place in their qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup.

To qualify, Chelle’s team must win all the remaining games to get the top spot in the group, which offers just one ticket to the tournament.

Eguavoen said it won’t be easy, but he believes it’s possible with strong teamwork and support from Nigerians.

He added that the players are very motivated to play at the World Cup. He’s staying focused on the next match instead of dwelling on past results. According to him, every game should be treated like a final.
