The Federal Government of Nigeria has set aside ₦18.73 billion in the 2025 budget to improve cybersecurity. This funding will help protect digital systems and fight cybercrime across various government bodies.
The largest share, ₦9.26 billion, will go to the National Cybercrime Coordination Centre. This shows the government’s strong focus on stopping online crimes and improving national coordination in digital security efforts.
The Police Formations and Commands will get ₦4.37 billion to help strengthen their capacity in tackling cyber-related crimes and upgrading their digital tools.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) will receive ₦2.53 billion to improve the protection of Nigerians’ identity information from hackers and data breaches.
The Department of State Security Service (DSS) is set to get ₦1.16 billion. This will support its efforts to monitor and respond to digital threats that could harm national security.
The Defence Space Administration will be allocated ₦399.7 million. This fund may help boost space-related technologies and systems for national cybersecurity purposes.
Other government bodies and agencies are also included in the cybersecurity budget. The Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority will get ₦250 million, while the Nigeria Immigration Service is to receive ₦188.5 million. The Federal Cooperative College in Ibadan will have ₦100.4 million for cybersecurity work.
The Nigeria Institute for Economic & Social Research will be given ₦65 million, and the Federal Ministry of Housing & Urban Planning headquarters will get ₦46 million. The Nigeria Building & Road Research Institute will receive ₦40 million, the National Bureau of Statistics ₦35 million, and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development also ₦35 million.
The New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) is allocated ₦30 million, the Federal Ministry of Budget & Economic Planning headquarters ₦17.5 million, and the National Space Research & Development Agency ₦10 million.
These funds show that the government is encouraging not only security agencies but also other sectors to invest in cybersecurity and digital safety.
