A small earthquake shook parts of northern Iran on Friday while Israel continued its attacks on the country.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake had a strength of 5.1, although an Iranian news agency said it was slightly stronger at 5.2. It happened about 37 kilometers southwest of the city of Semnan, and the shaking came from 10 kilometers below the ground.
The location of the earthquake was very close to Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility, which raised some concerns. The Fordow site is one of Iran’s major nuclear enrichment centers and is located in Qom Province.
People in Tehran, the capital city of Iran, also felt the shaking. Semnan, the city near where the earthquake started, is around 145 miles east of Tehran. Thankfully, the quake was not strong enough to cause damage.
The earthquake happened around the same time Israel reportedly hit Iran with another missile. News reports say the Israeli strike targeted a defense site called Magar in Behmai province, located in the southwest part of Iran.
Reports also say that the attack may have destroyed three missile launchers that the Israeli army believed were ready to fire missiles at Israel.
The Israeli military (IDF) also said they targeted and killed a group of Iranian commanders and soldiers. They claimed that a drone spotted the group, which included a top IRGC commander who was linked to missile operations. The IDF said this team was planning to launch missiles and had to be stopped.
