We’re returning stolen assets to Nigerians – EFCC chairman

The head of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has promised that stolen properties recovered from corrupt individuals will now be used to help the Nigerian people.

Olukoyede gave this assurance on Wednesday when he visited the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Southern Kaduna. This school was previously known as Nok University and was taken over by the government after a court confirmed it was funded illegally.

The EFCC said the government decided to give the property back to the public to be used for education. President Bola Tinubu had directed that it be turned into a school, and that order is now being followed.

Olukoyede said, “This place now belongs to the people.” He made it clear that recovered assets would not be stolen again, saying the EFCC is changing how things are done.

He praised President Tinubu for the idea and also thanked Vice President Kashim Shettima and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna for helping to make it happen.

Olukoyede also admired the buildings on the site, saying many universities do not have such good facilities. He encouraged local people to protect the school and take it as their own. “Keep it safe for the future,” he urged.

He announced that classes will begin by September 2025. Olukoyede also said he plans to come back when students begin learning at the school.

“This is the real purpose of fighting corruption,” he said, “to give back what was stolen to the people.”

The school’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Qurix, said the handover is a big win for the region.

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, who represents Kaduna South, also welcomed the project and said it shows development is finally coming to the area.
