“Over 200 dead, you declared holiday for President?” — Comedian Efe Warriboy blasts Benue governor Alia over Tinubu’s visit

Popular Nigerian comedian, Efe Warriboy, has openly criticised the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, over a controversial decision made during a tragic period.

In a video he posted on Instagram, Efe expressed his frustration after Governor Alia declared Wednesday, June 18, as a public holiday to welcome President Bola Tinubu to the state. This came just shortly after over 200 people were killed in a violent attack in the Yelewata area.

The Benue government had asked residents to turn out in large numbers to receive the president, but Efe felt this was insensitive. He said it disrespects those who recently lost their loved ones.

Calling the move “nonsense,” Efe questioned why the governor would make such a decision at a time when many families are grieving. He said it showed the governor was more concerned about politics than the wellbeing of his people.

He further accused Governor Alia of using the tragedy for political gain, claiming it was part of a plan to secure another term in office during the 2027 elections.

Efe concluded by comparing Governor Alia to former Governor Samuel Ortom, praising Ortom for always speaking out during crises. He said many people had high hopes for Alia because of his background as a priest but are now disappointed in his actions.
