The traditional ruler of the Tiv people, Tor Tiv V, His Royal Majesty James Ayatse, has spoken out strongly against the idea that the ongoing violence in Benue State is simply due to fights between farmers and herders.
Speaking during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu and other key figures in the state, he said this claim is completely false and hides the real danger people in Benue are facing.
The monarch said he is deeply worried that these misleading stories have shaped how people across the country see the crisis, even affecting how the government responds to it.
In his words, this is not a simple issue between herders and farmers. It’s not about communities fighting, and it’s not a few isolated revenge attacks. Instead, he believes it’s something more dangerous and organized.
He criticized those who say the people of Benue should just accept peace and live with their attackers. He said this kind of advice ignores the real issue and puts more pressure on the victims.
According to Tor Tiv, the truth is that Benue is under a serious and well-planned attack. He described it as a genocidal invasion carried out by terrorist herders and armed criminals who want to take over land. He said this has been going on for years and is getting worse.
He warned that if the government continues to misjudge the problem, it will keep applying the wrong solutions. He made it clear that what’s happening in Benue is not a small misunderstanding but a full-blown war.
