A video has gone viral showing a troubling scene from Makurdi, Benue State. In the video, secondary school students are seen standing in the rain to welcome President Bola Tinubu.
Despite the bad weather, the students were singing the national anthem by the roadside. Sadly, cars in the presidential convoy splashed water on them as they sped past.
President Tinubu visited Benue following violent attacks on some communities in the state that left many families mourning.
The footage of the students soaked in rain was shared on social media platform X, sparking strong reactions from users.
One user, @Trhymesz, expressed frustration, saying that Nigerians need to wake up and demand better leadership instead of enduring constant mistreatment.
Another user, @Jaysings001, questioned why students were standing on the road, especially since the state had declared the day a public holiday.
@j94626377 reacted angrily, saying if any of the children were theirs, they would immediately remove them from the school for allowing such treatment.
@MESIGO422 shared the opinion that the President would not even notice the children, and criticised the government for focusing on appearances instead of the lives lost in recent attacks.
@ToniRhymze feared that many of the students might fall sick due to the rain but added that such health risks seem ignored by the state authorities.
@NasOricha_ pointed out that true leadership requires empathy. He said it was wrong to have children stand in the rain after a tragic event in the state just to greet a political figure.
Lastly, @obadarabi directed a comment at activist Rinu, suggesting that instead of always complaining, she should take action if she truly wants change.
