President Bola Tinubu has paid a visit to some of the people who were injured in the deadly attack that happened in Yelwata, a community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. He visited them at the teaching hospital in Makurdi, the state capital.
After checking on the victims at the hospital, President Tinubu went to the new Banquet Hall at the Benue State Government House. There, he was expected to meet with key leaders and stakeholders to talk about the recent attacks that caused the death of many people.
The President arrived in Makurdi on Wednesday. He landed at the Tactical Air Command base of the Nigerian Air Force at about 12:58 pm and went straight to the hospital from there.
Once he finished at the hospital, he moved to the Government House for the meeting with state officials and other important figures. The goal was to find solutions to the rising violence in the region.
To honor the President’s visit, the Benue State Government declared Wednesday a public holiday. This allowed more people to take part in the activities and show support.
President Tinubu’s visit followed the recent attack on the Yelwata community, where more than 200 people were killed and many others injured. The tragedy shocked many Nigerians and drew national attention.
Reports say the attackers came very early in the morning. They split into three groups and entered the town from different directions, making it difficult for people to escape.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers shot randomly and in turns, which caused confusion. This made it hard for local security groups to respond quickly or stop the attackers.
