The police in Delta State have arrested a 36-year-old woman named Ekene Chroma and her 18-year-old accomplice, Okafor Jonathan, for allegedly dealing in illegal firearms.
According to a statement from Police Spokesman SP Bright Edafe on Monday, June 16, 2025, the suspects were caught during a sting operation in the Okpanam area of Asaba.
During the operation, officers found two English single-barrel guns and 110 live bullets with the suspects.
Edafe explained that on June 13, 2025, around 4 PM, the CP Special Assignment Team carried out the operation and arrested the two suspects. Ekene Chroma is from Issele-Uku, and Jonathan is from Onicha-Ugbo — both communities in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. They both live in Okpanam.
A search led to the recovery of two single-barrel guns and over a hundred bullets. Early investigations suggest that the suspects may be involved in selling illegal weapons.
The police have taken the suspects and the items found into custody, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, thanked residents who shared helpful tips with the police. He said the success of the operation shows the power of community support in fighting crime.
He encouraged more people in Delta to work with the police to help create a safer environment for everyone.
