IGP Visits Benue, Commiserates With Government On Killings Of Residents

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, visited Benue State on June 16, 2025, following recent attacks that led to the deaths of many residents. He was joined by top police officers, including Deputy Inspectors-General and senior regional commanders, to show concern and take action.

On arrival, the IGP went to the Benue State Government House to meet Governor Hyacinth Alia. During the meeting, he expressed deep sympathy over the tragic events and called the killings “senseless” and “acts of terrorism.” He promised that the police would do all they could to stop the violence and catch those responsible.

The IGP also visited Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area, one of the places affected by the attacks. He inspected the destruction and spoke with local leaders, alongside the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa. He assured the people that more security officers and resources would be sent to the area to keep them safe.

To strengthen efforts in Benue, the IGP ordered the immediate deployment of more tactical police teams. He asked DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu to lead and supervise the operations in the state, with the goal of restoring peace quickly.

Before ending his visit, the IGP met with officers of the Benue State Police Command in Makurdi. He promised them better welfare and logistics support to help them deal with the current security challenges.

He also repeated the police force’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s security agenda and bringing peace back to all affected communities in Benue and across Nigeria.
