Mustapha Salihu, who is the National Vice Chairman (North-East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has cleared the air on the growing rumours that President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima may not be getting along.
Recently, there’s been talk suggesting that the two top government officials might be at odds. But Salihu called these rumours nothing more than distractions, pushed by people who gain from political tension.
Some say Vice President Shettima feels left out, especially when President Tinubu travels and doesn’t temporarily hand over power. These actions have made some people believe that all is not well between the President and his deputy.
Adding to the rumours is the fact that Shettima is rarely mentioned during events where Tinubu is endorsed for re-election in 2027. Some even think the President might be considering a new vice presidential candidate for the next election.
However, Salihu addressed these issues during an interview on Channels Television. He made it clear that internal party affairs are not for public debate on social media or TV, and any misunderstandings are handled behind closed doors.
He further explained that in every administration, people try to create stories of disagreement between leaders. According to him, only insecure politicians pay attention to such gossip, while focused leaders continue their work.
To wrap things up, Salihu pointed out that the APC in the North-East remains united. He shared that he had met and worked closely with party members from Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, and Yobe states in preparation for a recent summit.
In his words, there is no crisis – just unnecessary noise.
