Al Hilal’s president, Bin Nafal, recently explained why the club was not able to sign some of the biggest football stars. These included Cristiano Ronaldo from Al Nassr and Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United.
Before the FIFA Club World Cup, Al Hilal wanted to bring in top players. They aimed to sign Ronaldo, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, and Manchester United’s captain Bruno Fernandes to strengthen their team.
After hiring Simone Inzaghi as their new coach from Inter Milan, Al Hilal wanted to improve their squad ahead of the important tournament.
Ronaldo is set to become a free agent at the end of this month because he has not yet renewed his contract with Al Nassr. Al Hilal hoped to get him on a short-term deal to play in the FIFA Club World Cup. However, this move did not happen.
The club also tried to sign Bruno Fernandes, Theo Hernandez, and Victor Osimhen, but none of these deals worked out.
Bin Nafal told Goal that the main reasons for these failed transfers were lack of time and the high demands from the players. He said many players wanted to rest after a long season and the offers they received were not realistic.
“We spoke with many players, but they wanted to go on vacation after a long season. We tried to sign several players before the World Cup, but we were not successful because of the short time and illogical offers,” said Bin Nafal.
In the meantime, Simone Inzaghi left Inter Milan after a heavy 5-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.
