The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) will kick off its 2025/26 season on Friday, August 22, 2025.

This was made known by the NPFL chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, during a media briefing held in Abuja.

Elegbeleye said the league is working towards having its calendar aligned with other major football leagues around the world, to make it more organized and in tune with global standards.

He also stated that the NPFL will soon publish the official fixtures for the season and announce player registration guidelines for the clubs.

In the just-concluded 2024/25 season, Remo Stars emerged as league champions, with Rivers United coming in second place.

Both teams — Remo Stars and Rivers United — have earned the chance to represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League next season.

Meanwhile, Abia Warriors, who finished in third place, will participate in the CAF Confederation Cup.
