2027: Jonathan distances self from Instagram post on presidential race

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has denied any connection to a viral Instagram post about the 2027 presidential election.

According to a report by Daily Post, an Instagram account using Jonathan’s name recently shared a post suggesting that Nigeria’s current leaders are “sleeping.” The post encouraged citizens to make better leadership choices during the 2027 elections.

The message on the page read, “Since our current leaders are pretending to sleep, we pray that we will get our good leadership back in 2027; your choice will determine the betterment of our future.”

The post quickly gained attention online, gathering over 16,000 views, more than 1,200 comments, and hundreds of shares. It also featured a photo of Jonathan shaking hands with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

This post comes at a time when there is growing speculation that Jonathan, who was president from 2010 to 2015, might be considering a return to politics in the 2027 elections.

However, Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, cleared the air on Friday by confirming that the former president does not even have an Instagram account.

“Former President Jonathan does not own an Instagram account,” Eze said.

Since leaving office in 2015, Jonathan has often been the subject of rumors about a possible political comeback. Still, he has remained focused on promoting peace and democracy, especially across West Africa. His image has largely been that of a statesman rather than an active political figure.

Despite ongoing speculation, Jonathan continues to advocate for good governance and peaceful democratic processes.
