Turkish club Trabzonspor is planning to keep Nigerian footballer Anthony Nwakaeme for the 2025/26 season.
The club’s coach believes Nwakaeme still has a lot to offer, even as he gets older.
Nwakaeme came back to Trabzonspor last summer after spending two years in Saudi Arabia with Al-Fahya.
At 36 years old, many expected him to slow down, but he showed he could still compete at a high level.
He played in 27 matches in all competitions this past season, scoring two goals and providing five assists.
His performance proved that he can still contribute to the team, especially with his creativity and experience on the pitch.
Nwakaeme was also in the starting lineup during Trabzonspor’s Turkish Cup final match against Galatasaray.
Although they lost the match, his presence was important for the team’s overall play.
Reports from Turkey say head coach Fatih Tekke has told the club’s leaders that he wants to keep players like Nwakaeme.
Tekke values experienced players and believes they are key to building a strong team.
The coach thinks Nwakaeme’s leadership and skills will be very useful in the upcoming season.
His time in the team and understanding of Turkish football are considered big advantages.
Trabzonspor finished third in the 2024/25 Super Lig season, behind Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
The club is now aiming to do better next season, and keeping key players is part of that plan.
Nwakaeme played for Trabzonspor from 2018 to 2022 before moving to Saudi Arabia.
In his first time at the club, he scored 41 goals in 120 league games, making him one of their top players during that period.
