Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has explained why he decided to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC). He compared his move to chasing a big elephant and said he won’t let barking dogs (distractions) stop him.
He shared this while speaking in Uyo on Wednesday, shortly after returning from a trip to France, where he attended the United Nations Ocean Conference.
Governor Eno said the reason behind joining the APC was to help Akwa Ibom develop more. According to him, the change is for the good of the people and to put the state in a better position.
He also brushed off criticism from those not originally from the state, saying they should not interfere in issues that concern Akwa Ibom.
Governor Eno stressed that he has every right to make this political decision. He reminded the public that everyone has the freedom to choose which group or party to be part of.
He added a popular saying to make his point clear: “When you’re chasing an elephant, you don’t stop for barking dogs.” In other words, he is focused on big goals and won’t be distracted.
He assured the people that he knows what he is doing and is ready to take Akwa Ibom on a smooth road to development. He called this his “expressway of progress.”
Governor Eno also promised to keep leading the state with peace, unity, and growth in mind. He said his decisions are guided by faith and a sense of purpose.
Also speaking, APC chairman in the state, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, praised Governor Eno’s leadership. He called on everyone to stop criticizing and instead support the governor’s efforts to bring more benefits from the federal government.
He said Governor Eno is the right person to lead at this time and urged people to stand behind him to achieve more for Akwa Ibom.
