Child labour practices stealing dreams of millions of children – First Lady, Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has shared her concern over the growing issue of child labour in Nigeria. She said it is heartbreaking that many children are being denied their dreams because they are forced to work instead of being in school.

She made this statement in support of World Against Child Labour Day 2025, which is observed globally on June 12 each year to raise awareness and push for action.

Mrs. Tinubu stressed the need for Nigeria to create and enforce stronger laws to stop child labour. She also encouraged more help for families and more investment in good education for all children.

In her personal message for the day, the First Lady said, “Today, we stand up for children whose dreams are being destroyed by the burden of child labour. It is wrong for children to be working when they should be in school, learning, and planning for a brighter future.”

She called for faster efforts to end child labour completely. She said this should be done by improving laws, helping struggling families, and making sure every child has access to good education.

The First Lady also encouraged everyone to work together to build a Nigeria where all children are free to grow, dream big, and become the best they can be. She ended her message with a prayer for the future of Nigeria’s children.

This year’s theme for the World Day Against Child Labour is: “Let’s Speed Up Efforts! End Child Labour!” It reminds everyone that change must happen quickly and together.
