Championship: Jamilu Collins released by Cardiff City

Cardiff City Football Club has officially confirmed that Nigerian defender Jamilu Collins is no longer part of their team. The club, which plays in the Sky Bet Championship, made the announcement following the end of the season.

Collins had a tough time this season after picking up an injury during pre-season training. Because of that, he couldn’t hold a regular place in the starting line-up.

The 30-year-old last played for Cardiff in November 2024. Since then, he hasn’t been seen on the pitch in any competitive games for the club.

There were talks about him possibly leaving the club in January. However, no other team made an offer that Cardiff City found acceptable, so he stayed.

Throughout the 2024/25 season, Collins only played in three league matches. His limited game time made it harder for him to make an impact this year.

He originally joined Cardiff City in May 2022 after leaving German side SC Paderborn. The transfer was done for free, with no fee involved.

During his time in Wales, Collins made 44 appearances for Cardiff. He scored one goal and gave four assists to help his teammates.

Now that he has been released, Collins will be looking for a new club where he can start fresh and hopefully stay injury-free.
