Tunde Onakoya: I rejected invitations from Tinubu govt, others – Mr Macaroni

Nigerian actor and comedian, Mr. Macaroni, whose real name is Adebowale Adedayo, recently revealed that he has turned down several invitations from politicians across different levels of government—local, state, and federal. He made it clear that he doesn’t want to be involved with politics or political leaders, no matter the offer.

He firmly stated that he would never change his principles just to gain favor from politicians. Mr. Macaroni shared these thoughts while reacting to recent comparisons made between him and chess champion Tunde Onakoya. Tunde had visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and received some criticism for it. However, Mr. Macaroni said that people shouldn’t use him as a standard for judging other celebrities.

He posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he has said many times that he isn’t anyone’s hero and certainly not perfect. He said that members of the APC often try to claim he has issues with anyone who meets political leaders, but he clarified that this isn’t true. He has never attacked anyone for visiting or associating with politicians—it’s just his personal choice not to do so.

He also explained that avoiding politicians doesn’t make him better than others, and those who choose to associate with leaders aren’t doing anything wrong. Everyone has different beliefs and should be respected for their own decisions. Mr. Macaroni added that even though he keeps saying this, some APC supporters still try to drag him into unnecessary arguments.

He confirmed that he’s received many invitations from politicians at all levels, including the ones some people are eager to get. Despite all these offers, he said he will continue to turn them down. He promised not to compromise or go against what he believes in, no matter how often the invitations come.
