Liverpool has come to a verbal agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign talented German midfielder Florian Wirtz.

The deal is worth up to £126 million, which would break the British transfer record and become the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

Both clubs have agreed on the key parts of the deal, although a few small details still need to be sorted out.

The transfer is expected to go through once everything is finalized. Wirtz will soon travel to Liverpool to complete his medical tests and sign his contract. Once those steps are done, the move will be confirmed.

The transfer fee of £126 million is a major amount and shows how serious Liverpool is about improving their team. It also beats their previous biggest signing and sets a new record for any British club. Bayer Leverkusen had been clear from the start that they wanted €150 million for Wirtz. Liverpool made a few attempts to lower the price, but in the end, they agreed to pay what Leverkusen asked.

Even though the clubs have agreed, the move won’t become official until the transfer window opens on Monday, 16 June 2025. That’s the first day Liverpool can register Wirtz as their player and complete all the paperwork.
