Former Liverpool defender, Mamadou Sakho, has thrown his support behind Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star, Ousmane Dembele, for the 2025 Ballon d’Or. Sakho believes that Dembele deserves the prestigious individual award, especially after his outstanding performance in the 2024-2025 season.
Sakho, speaking on French radio station RTL (via French Football Weekly), emphasized that all French citizens should rally behind Dembele. He made a clear distinction, stating that Lamine Yamal, Barcelona’s promising young talent, is Spanish, and Dembele, as a French player, should have the full backing of his home country.
In his passionate statement, Sakho expressed his confusion about why some French journalists are still skeptical about Dembele’s worthiness. According to him, Dembele’s remarkable achievements over the past year make him a deserving candidate for the Ballon d’Or. Sakho’s message was simple: all French people should unite and support Dembele.
Dembele, 28, had an impressive 2024-2025 season, scoring a total of 33 goals across all competitions. He also helped PSG secure three major trophies: Ligue 1, the French Cup, and the prestigious UEFA Champions League under manager Luis Enrique’s guidance.
