During his concert at the famous O2 Arena in London, Nigerian music star Rema took a touching moment to thank Afrobeats legend D’banj.
As the crowd cheered, Rema welcomed D’banj onto the stage and spoke about how much the veteran artist meant to him. He said D’banj helped open the way for younger artists like himself to succeed.
Rema talked about how D’banj’s hit song Oliver Twist, released in 2012, was a major breakthrough for Nigerian music. The track helped Afrobeats become more popular outside of Africa, especially in the UK.
He reminded fans that Oliver Twist made history by becoming the first Nigerian song to enter the official UK top 10 music chart. This success showed the world what Nigerian artists could do.
“You were one of the first ones to bring Afrobeats to the UK. You and Don Jazzy held it down. Y’all opened that door,” Rema said. He continued with heartfelt gratitude:“I appreciate you for life. I love you from the bottom of my heart. If you never existed, I would have never existed.”
The crowd was full of excitement as the two stars stood together on stage. It was a beautiful moment of love and respect, as Rema gave credit to D’banj for inspiring him and many others.
