Harrison Gwamnishu, a well-known activist, took a stand by protesting alone at the Government House in Asaba. He did this to raise awareness about the increasing insecurity in Delta State.
This protest came a few months after he resigned from his role as Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori. Gwamnishu said he could no longer stay silent about the growing violence in the state.
During his protest, he tried to meet with the governor, but security officers at the gate did not allow him inside the government building.
Sharing the video on the post, he wrote:
“I have just concluded a solo protest at the Delta State Government House to draw urgent attention to the growing insecurity plaguing our communities.
Gwamnishu criticized the government for neglecting local security groups. These groups are important because they help protect communities. However, they remain unfunded and unsupported, even though kidnappings and crimes are becoming more common.
He urged the government to give more money and support to local vigilante groups so they can do their job properly and keep people safe.
Gwamnishu’s decision to resign from his government job was to stand with the people of Delta State and demand better security for everyone.
He also asked the public to join him by speaking out and supporting the call for action.
The safety of Delta State depends on everyone working together, and Gwamnishu’s protest is a reminder that more must be done to protect the people.
