Chelsea confirm £30m signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town after paying his £30 million release clause. The 22-year-old forward has signed a contract to stay with Chelsea until 2031.

The release clause was activated after Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League. Chelsea beat competition from other clubs like Manchester United and Newcastle to secure the young striker’s move.

Chelsea will pay £20 million upfront, with the rest of the fee paid in instalments. Ipswich also included a sell-on clause, meaning they will get a share of any future transfer fee.

Delap, who plays for England’s under-21 team, said he understands the importance of joining a big club like Chelsea. He is excited about the club’s progress and looks forward to developing his skills there.

Growing up watching Chelsea, Delap said his dream was always to win trophies with the club. When he spoke to Chelsea’s staff, he saw their strong desire to return to the top of English football.

He believes Chelsea has the quality and the players needed to achieve big goals. His main aim is to help the team win more trophies and bring Chelsea back to its former glory.

Delap will also have the chance to play in the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States. He could make his debut for Chelsea against LAFC on June 16.

This signing is Chelsea’s second big addition this summer, following midfielder Dario Essugo’s arrival from Sporting Lisbon.

Last season, Delap scored 12 goals in 37 appearances for Ipswich, despite the team being relegated to the Championship.

Chelsea fans will be hoping that Delap’s arrival helps bring new energy and goals to the team as they look to compete at the highest level again.
