The Federal Government has started paying N44,000 to former NYSC members as arrears of their monthly allowance.
This money is meant for those who finished their NYSC service before the new allowance was introduced earlier this year.
According to a report by NAN, the payment is part of a promise made when the government increased the NYSC monthly allowance from N33,000 to N77,000.
Since the new pay didn’t cover those who had already completed their service, the government promised to give them the difference—and now they are doing it.
Many former corps members have confirmed online that they’ve received the payment. They shared their happiness and relief on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
One user, @Kingpin_black1, thanked both NYSC and President Tinubu, saying he believes Nigeria is moving in a better direction.
Another user, @pharmacist_shezzy, wrote that the N44,000 had arrived and praised NYSC for not disappointing.
Similarly, @ifeoluwa_X said they almost deleted their NYSC account before finally getting the payment alert.
The move has received praise online, with many seeing it as a positive sign that the government is keeping its promises and building trust with the people.
